At least you didn't suggest a Michael Bolton song.

Oh yeah, I deliberately left off Summer Wind because I hate that song too. But the rest of your suggestions are faboo!!!

Cheekies -- Magic by the Cars is mentioned a lot as a summer song but I don't know why other than because of the video. I don't remember all the lyrics to the song since I was never into it; does it mention summer?

Midnighter -- I don't know that song. I was never into Jane's addiction. Jane's Bun, yes but Jane's Addiction, no.

Paxy -- you'll notice, I hope, that I included X's 4th of July! The song is from the movie The Wicker Man and occurs after the final harvest of the year (which has sadly failed) in the summer and not on May 1. The song is only subtitled The Maypole Song in parentheses on the Mediaeval Baebes cd made decades after the movie came out (it's a cover song, basically) and not called that in the movie. In fact, the song has no title in the movie that I know of and May 1, May Day or maypoles are not mentioned anyhere in the lyrics. The song happens to be sung while a bunch of people are frolicing around a maypole but, as I said, it is not for May Day but simply a wacky village get together that essentially was organized for the sole benefit of freaking out ultra-conservative Christian cop Edward Woodward; it was not intended as a May Day celebration. But as you quite rightly say, this one is tricky. While May is technically not summer but spring, the end of May IS summer to me because that's when us kids got out of school. I also don't buy that June is not summer (until the end of the month) -- it's June, folks, no one's gonna tell me June ain't summer, beeyatches! And as you also mention in your retraction, these are songs that remind me of summer so we all know that means that any song I say is summery is summery. HA! I'm an only child, too!Cerptshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07788317865445255338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19669102.post-1156187703814404402006-08-21T15:15:00.000-04:002006-08-21T15:15:00.000-04:00ACTUALLY Cheekies, you silly twisted boy -- 1. In...ACTUALLY Cheekies, you silly twisted boy --

1. Indian Summer usually occurs in September which most people think of as autumn but STILL remains summer until the end of the month. Our Native American friends (you remember, the ones we sold the booze and smallpox-infected blankets to) would always gather their final harvest at the end of summer in September when it usually get hot again for a little while. Indian summer doesn't occur in autumn; that would just be called a friggin' fall day that's hot as balls.
2. Yes you did. He's singing a Beach Boys song which I like as long as the Beach Boys don't sing it.

3.The Maypole Song isn't tricky at all because it has nothing to do with May 1. May 1st is not mentioned in the lyrics of the song so don't jump to conclusions (even tho that's the only exercise you ever get).

4.As for The Boys of Summer, the song does take place at the END of summer (again, I picture September when all the beach tourists have gone away)-- that's kinda the whole point of the song. Again, you're recant shenanigans on yourself does bring up the point about songs REMINDING me of summer and that's valid. The song Boys of Summer represents the end of summer in much the same way as Billy Joel's Famous Last Words which I always listen to at the end of August/beginning of September. Hence their deliberate placement at the end of the list.

5. It ain't on there because it don't have a particular summer association wit me.

6. Why thank you.Cerptshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07788317865445255338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19669102.post-1156131948121840782006-08-20T23:45:00.000-04:002006-08-20T23:45:00.000-04:00Hey! Indian Summer-In order for it to be Indian summer it has to be autumn, therefore not a summer song.

2. Did I spy with my little eye the name (gulp) Vince Gill on this here list? I DID!

3. The Maypole song now this one is tricky cause according to paganism May 1 is the beginning of summer however, May 1 is far from summer on most calendars. A spring song.

4. The boys of summer-also not a summer song cause it says after the boys of summer have gone. Ain't no body on the beach. It's autumn at best, my thoughts winter.

5. Where's Restless by Elton?

6. Actually a pretty good list.Cheeks DaBellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05960537418349697891noreply@blogger.com
