POWER RECORDS MEETS THE MONSTERS

THE SEVENTIES WOULDN'T BE THE SEVENTIES WITHOUT POWER RECORDS.

The 1970s were something of a golden age for kids records.  We've already seen a gallery of the spectacular album covers drawn by George Peed and there were hundreds and hundreds of children's LPs released during the decade.  Another major mainstay of my youth was the Power Records line featuring fully dramatized adventure plays featuring a wide variety of properties from Marvel and DC Superheroes to Star Trek, Space: 1999, Conan the Barbarian, the Six Million Dollar Man and an entire "Monster Series".  Power Records were released both in 33 1/3 LP form as well as 45rpm.  The 45's, however, usually came in a "Book and Record Set" which meant that the story you were about to listen to on the 45 could be read along with in an accompanying comic book.  And these were REAL comic books by such established creators as Neal Adams, Mike Ploog, Gene Colan, Gil Kane and countless others.

All this week over at my sister blog BATHED IN THE LIGHT FROM ANDROMEDA, there are posted audio files of the "Halloweenie" simpatico Power Records for your listening pleasure.  To accompany the sounds, I thought I'd post some artwork from the very records you can hear over there.  But hurry and listen because after a week they'll be gone; but you'll still be able to see the artwork here.  The monsterific adventures you'll hear over there are:

THE MONSTER OF FRANKENSTEIN

TOMB OF DRACULA:  TERROR IN THE SNOW

THE CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF

G.I. JOE:  THE SECRET OF THE MUMMY'S TOMB

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN:  THE MARK OF THE MAN-WOLF

THE MAN-THING:  NIGHT OF THE LAUGHING DEAD

BATMAN:  ROBIN MEETS MAN-BAT
