LOADS OF WOMEN RUNNING FROM SPOOKY HOUSES

WHEN I WAS A KID OF ABOUT 11 OR 12, I DEVOURED THE BOOKS "MURDER INK" AND "MURDERESS INK" EDITED BY DILYS WINN.  The subject was mainly murder mysteries in all their forms and histories.  However, tucked away in the blood-soaked pages was my first encounter with the Gothic paperbacks of the "HAD-I-BUT-KNOWN" school of fiction.  Basically, these are the Gothic romance novels which we extremely popular in the 1960s-1970s.  It's a rather amusing fact that almost 100% of the cover art for these paperback feature a woman running from a spooky house/building of some sort.  Said house/mansion/castle/lighthouse would always have one single, solitary light burning in an upper window.  Traditionally, the terrified woman would be clad in her nightgown but that wasn't a necessity.  All that matters was that the paperback cover was sufficiently spooky-looking to cause someone to snap it up!  Now, I think these (particularly early-70's) covers are pretty nifty and fit right into the Halloween spirit.  So here they are . . . .a gallery of paperbacks featuring loads of women running away from spooky houses!
