HOLIDAY HELL-A-THON 2024

OH FER CORN'S SAKE!!!  KELSI CORNS, THAT IS!!!

Yeah, it's me participating in yet another Read-A-Thon/Watch-A-Thon -- this time for the Hols.  Kelsi from the Youtooberz channel SLIME AND SLASHERS is conducting another rather chill one called HOLIDAY HELL-A-THON and it couldn't be more laid back and low stress so I'm gonna do it.  What is this, my 5th a-thon of the year?!?!?!  Who knew I was a social butterfly participator???!!!

This one is also kinda cool because the rules are different to every other a-thon I've participated in this year.  Instead of teams like OLD SCHOOL APRIL (Blue Barracudas, CHOMP CHOMP BITCHES!!!) which you choose at the beginning, HOLIDAY HELL-A-THON has teams all right but you don't choose them at the start; depending on which prompts you complete will determine which team you ultimately fall on.  Whuhhhh????  It's easy.  There are
"Nice Prompts" and "Naughty Prompts" and there are a Santa's-Butt-Ton of them.  The cool thing is they aren't necessarily holiday related; one prompt is just "read or watch a title that begins with any letter from A to M".  You can choose to make it holiday themed or not depending on your prefs.  Then, depending on which list you fulfill a prompt from determines what column your point goes in.  So you basically read and watch (and do -- there is an "activities prompts" list also) whatever you were going to anyway and then see which prompts it fulfills.

There are columns for 3 teams.  If you fulfill a prompt from the "Nice Prompts", it goes in the column for "Team Santa".  If you fulfill a prompt from the "Naughty Prompts" list, your point goes in the column for "Team Krampus".  At the end of December, whichever column has the most points by the end of the year . . . that's what team you are on.  Oh, but then there's that THIRD team:  "Team Elf".  Now this elf is sneaky and trying to make her/his own team win.  How that happens is this:  because one book or movie can fulfill several different prompts on either naughty or nice lists, it could be a tie.  Equal prompts filled on the naughty list AND the nice list -- which means, if it's a tie, then you put the point in the "Team Elf" column.

I actually kinda hope I end up on Team Elf at the end of the year but where you land is half the fun.  Here is the tracking list of the three teams which is empty now but I will fill in during December to keep track of where I am.  So I heartily urge you to pop on over to Kelsi's Slime and Slashers youtooberz channel where she has a video with all the rules and her discord if you wanna participate on there -- unless, of course, you're a grumpy ole Scrooge!:

And finally, here are the prompts lists below:

  1. Jeezy Peezy, lookin' over this list there ain't no way! 300 page book? They make them that big? With or without pictures? A movie directed by a woman??? Why would I waste my time? I can help you with Secret Santa; watch Santa Claws. It's terrible, I gave it one and a half stars on Letterboxd. Good part is it's a soft core porn/horror so there's that. Guess that could go under Screw-ged as well. I don't have instagram and I don't know what discord is. Nor do I know what datcord is either. The breaking bread challenge??? Ewww, I gotta see PEOPLE??? Do gingerbread men know their houses are made out of the same thing they are? Kinda gross if you think about it.

    1. 300 page book OR a movie over 2 hours, I believe. Stephen King is the only bugger who writes books that long and who the hell would want to read anything HE writes anyway?!?! I saw a movie directed by a woman once; it was 90 minutes of her left eye because she was holding the camera backwards! Awesome, I was gonna suggest you be my Secret Santa for that prompt and FUNNILY ENOUGH I just bought Santa Claws because it's a Kelsi Rec - so that would fulfill TWO prompts there without even looking for more yet! Oh come on, you do too know what datcord is -- it's the string holding your keester on. No, there's nothing that can make you see people; that's a prompt that definitely needs skipping.

  2. Oh and I forgot to mention - you don't have to do ALL the prompts, silly. Frankly, if you only want to do one prompt total, that's fine. Or just movie watching. That's the point - no pressure. Basically, I'm not gonna set out to fulfill prompts. I'm just gonna read what I'm gonna normally read and watch what I'm gonna normally watch and then see what prompts the fulfill. And that's the ONLY thing I'll do NORMALLY this month, let me tell you!

  3. I'm actually watching a movie directed by a woman right now. And it's Australian! And not a sweater to be found. Santa Claws or Santa Jaws??? I saw both. Santa Jaws is a little better.

    1. Oh wait . . . I totally misread the inflections of your nuances. SANTA JAWS is actually the Kelsi rec I just bought NOT Santa Claws. If the 1996 SANTA CLAWS is the one you're talking about, I saw dat and gave it a whopping 1 1/2 stars. However, there is a 1988 SANTA CLAWS . . . oh and a 2008 . . . and a 2014. But I'm betting it's the 1996 one you're talking about. So I already saw dat one now you'll have to Secret Santa recommend something else!

    2. Nugget Is Dead?: A Christmas Story?!!?! Is dat the female directed Australian film you're watching. That'll probably tick off several prompts at once! And in Kelsi's latest video, she's starting already - the day after Thanksgiving - counting stuff for prompts so hell all bets are off EVERYBODY START PROMPTING!!!

  4. I've read almost all of the books at one time or another on the Kelsi Recs list so I'm counting them.

  5. HEY! I'm reading something right this very minute. I wonder if it fulfills any prompts. It's the nutritional information on the wrapper of a fig bar . . .

  6. Believe it or not I love me some fig newtons!! We did indeed watch a movie where the dog was sick all of the Christmas holiday. It reunites a family but fuck dat the doggies got cancer. Sad indeed. I saw the 1996 Santa Claws that I too gave 1 and a half stars. That's the only Santa Claws I've seen, Now Santa Jaws, I gave that three stars. It was almost three and a half.

    1. Nice! I was having me some other-than-Fig Newtons i.e. not the well-known brand name but something called "Nature's Bakery" from the vending machine and they wuz also Raspberry Fig Newtons. They're pretty damn good - taste the same as regular Fig Newton brand and they have a lot of fiber which is good for us dia-brats. Ah yes, well SANTA JAWS is winging it's way to me from Devilzon and I should have it by tomorrow maybes. But you STILL have to recommend another movie since I saw SANTA CLAWS already.

  8. OK, Deathgasm (2015). Wait, does it have to be a Christmas movie?

    1. No it doesn't have to be a Christmas movie; it can be anything. Of course, I've never seen DEATHGASM but I do own it! But it's buried under the mad stacks and may take a lot to find it.

  9. Goodnight Mommy (2014) it's a German language film so I don't know if you wanna read. Abigail (2024) I just reviewed this for the Countdown to Halloween. Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015) also was in this years countdown. You still need to see Lisa Frankenstein and dude, VelociPastor from 2018 which was in last years countdown.

    1. Hmmm. . . . I own GOODNIGHT MOMMY But it's buried in the Mad Stacks a la DEATHGASM. So it's a (slim) possibility. Abigail I also own but it is NOT buried so that's a (much more likely) possibility. SCOUTS GUIDE I do not own but it sounds like I need to rectumfy that situation. And both LISA FRANKENSTEIN and VELOCIPASTOR I also own and I don't think they're buried. So that's a lot of possibles. of course, I already fulfilled the "you made me watch" twice with SPIDER BABY remake and FOUND FOOTAGE 3-D. Yeah . . . . thanks a lot for that!

  10. Yeah, SPIDER BABY remake and FOUND FOOTAGE 3-D not a FaereCheek Film Festival bright spot.
