Not once but several times did she play a wicked old witch on television. And she was extremely good at it! From the looks of her, actor's actor Jeanette Nolan looks rather sweet and demur -- utterly respectable and a little sedate. However, give her a script with a witch in it and she tapped into some source of evil which flooded over the screen like a dark omen. However, she made an impact in movies of the macabre as well. She was Lady Macbeth to Orson Welles' Thane of Cawdor and she was the uncredited but iconic voice of Mrs. Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO. These are impressive enough but it is her witchy performances as the old crone in "PARASITE MANSION", the embodiment of evil witchery in "LA STREGA" (both classic episodes of BORIS KARLOFF'S THRILLER), a "wise woman" on THE TWILIGHT ZONE hour-long episode "JESS-BELLE" and finally another wicked old witch on NIGHT GALLERY in the episode entitled "SINCE AUNT ADA CAME TO STAY". Give your best witch's cackle in tribute to Jeanette Nolan.
