SCARY TALES [1993]

SPEAKING OF HORROR ANTHOLOGY FILMS . . . . HOW ABOUT ONE SHOT ON VIDEO IN THE NAUGHTY NINETIES?

SCARY TALES is a Baltimore-made SOV horror anthology featuring three stories with a wraparound featuring a glowing-eyed grim reaper telling scary tales to some kids.  Now, this is what SOV camcorder flicks are all about.  This film is so damn charming (Hollie Horror wouldn't lie!), I loved every minute of it!  Anyone whose heart is so dead that they can't be entertained by this heartfelt horror flick made by people with no money but the ghoulish gumption to make their own horror movie . . . . and make it totally watchable and fun . . . . well, the Great Pumpkin weeps for you!  The first story is called "Satan's Necklace" and guess what somebody digs up.  That's right!  The necklace turns a guy into a horned demon who breathes fire and does other devilish deeds!  The second story features a guy whose wife is cheating on him so he goes on a maniacal murder spree.  In the words of Bleeding Skull's own website:  "After several people are murdered, several people are murdered.  End."  Chapter 3 of our opus features a guy who neglects his wife and kid to play a video game in the basement and is sucked into it's violent world.

This is fun stuff and perfect for a Halloween party where lots of people can have fun with this.  And not in a derogatory way.  There are so many SOV amateur films which are a chore to watch that SCARY TALES should be applauded for its watchability.  The puppy dog enthusiasm with which SCARY TALES was made is infectious and any real horror fan can't help but love it.  Good for you, SCARY TALES!  The little horror movie that could.

At first glance, I was going to chalk this up to a big SKIP. But after reading your review, I have to say I am intrigued.
