COOKING AND OTHERWORLDLY SHENANIGANS ABOUND!
Alton Brown has been super excited about this GOOD EATS Halloween special and rightly so; this is a "cooking show" made by a lover of horror movies and it's perfect October viewing now and always! This is seriously going to be rewatched every year for Halloween by yers truly! Of course, the title for the special is derived from the classic Amicus horror film THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD; even the font used for the title is the same font for the earlier Amicus film. Alton Brown takes the role of storyteller as he sits in an armchair by the fire in order to spin the terrifying tale. Then wonderfully . . . . beautifully . . . . we switch to black-and-white as we watch the tale of a noodge who buys a 100 year old cookbook in a strange language that is said to be cursed. Naturally, he decides to make some recipes from the moldy tome and strange and scary happenings start occurring.
As with any GOOD EATS episode, this is a practical lesson in how to make homemade Halloween candy; specifically approximations of Butterfingers and Peppermint Patties. However, the entire production goes all out to not only provide a vivid Halloween mood but also to provide some nicely creepy scares as well. This show is a must-not-miss!
