IT'S WITH A CATCH IN MY VOICE AND A SHIVER IN MY HEART THAT I FINALLY UNDERTAKE THE 500 BOOK CHALLENGE!!!
I've held off this long but I'm finally gonna dive into the deep end. For those who don't know, Criminolly came up with this challenge (and Michael K. Vaughan has been running with it) which is to read 500 books you already own before buying any new books. Actually, Olly is only doing 100 while Michael (& Roger, of course) are doing 500! That number is ridiculous. I guess that's why I'M doing 500 too.
I started in November sometime (I think it was about halfway thru the month, I can't remember) and have gotten along fairly well so far. A month later, I have 19 books read already listed on my yellow legal pad (just like Mr. Vaughan above) and I'm about 20 pages from finishing my 20th book.
Perhaps I'll post at the beginning of each month with my progress. And here is the month of December for you:

OK, now what happens if say your boithday was to come around and someone got you a new book for your birthday? Now you own that book and you didn't but it. So it's an easier challenge to do if you have an amazon wish list and people who shop off of it.
Yes, you are correct sir. Any book given to me would be OK since I didn't buy it. Also, there are some books I pre-ordered before I started this challenge - some of which won't arrive until this summer - and they would be OK too since I bought them beforehand although they don't come out until then. And yes again, that's why I have a bunch of books on my Devilzon wishlist already. So go buy them all for me. What're you waitin' fer?!?!? I'll add 100 books to the wishlist and you must buy them all for me!!!!
Oh yeah, there's also another exemption which I'm stealing from Michael K. Vaughan. He exempts all Marvel Epic Collections and DC Finest collections from the 'no can buy' list and so will I. That's because they tend to go out of print very quickly so I will continue to buy every Epic Collection or DC Finest book I want when they come out; HOWEVER if I read it, it WILL NOT COUNT towards the 500 books. Anyhow, I have about 5000 Epic Collections and DC Finests I've already boughted previously so that shouldn't be a problem. In fact, I just today finished the MARVEL EPIC COLLECTION: BLACK PANTHER VOLUME 2 which I bought a while ago so it was eligible neverthelesses.
