I gotta say I was really sad to hear about Wendy or Pauline as I also know her but the best thing I remember about her was "Ian, I got this part."

By coincidence I met both Robert Quarry and Wendy Richard. I had about five minutes talk with Quarry on the set of MADHOUSE and found him charming. My encounter with Miss Richard came late one night when she and her actor friend Tony Selby stopped me and asked for directions to a local pub. Mr.Selby was pleasant and polite and Miss Richard was not. Nuff said?

Cheekies,

That is indeed my favourite Wendy Richard story. Only she didn't say "Ian" she said "Eeeeeahhh" in that wonderful voice of hers. I can never listen to that story too many time -- as told by John Inman (who died in 2007) who relates how his friend (from ARE YOU BEING SERVED?) Wendy called him one night not sure whether she should take a role on a new soap opera that was starting up called EASTENDERS. Inman does the best "Wendy Richard impression" when he describes how she called him and said "Ere...I gawt this pahhhhhhht..."

Weaverman,

Never lucky enough to meet Wendy Richard (and when are you gonna write that book about all your famous encounters?!?) but I did luckily get a chance to meet Robert Quarry a few years ago. Of course, the man looked fairly fragile but I assure you that his biting wit and sarcasm were razor-sharp -- but I can also assure you that his barbs were never directed towards his fans whom he seemed genuinely surprised and pleased to see come out to see him. As for Wendy Richard, I'm probably not surprised she was a little "brusque" since her characters of Miss Brahms AND Pauline Fowler shared that quality. It must be true that we bring a little bit of ourselves into each role we play...
