CAPTAIN KRONOS: COMEDIAN WATCHER

MY MEETING CAROLINE MUNRO STORY ISN'T AS INTERESTING AS MY INGRID PITT STORY -- in fact it isn't really interesting at all.  However, it's my excuse for posting my autographed piccy of her so deal with it!

This was at an earlier Monster Mania Convention in 2002; the one and only year it took place at the Cherry Hill Clarion (which is no longer there).  This was the first Monster Mania Convention and it still remains my favourite.  My first meeting with Caroline Munro was in the celebrity autograph room when she signed the lovely dedication (she clearly had fallen in love with me during the few minutes of our conversation).  We discussed my choice of DRACULA A.D. 1972 as the photo for her to sign (I'm a big fan of that unfairly-maligned movie) and I went on my merry way - obviously leaving her infatuated and very likely obsessed with me by this point.

Later that evening, the fantastically funny "horror comedian" Don Reese was performing his stand-up routine in front of a standing room only crowd.  One of those standing in the ballroom was me.  At the other end of the room was the entrance and, about 5 minutes into the stand-up performance, I noticed the door across the room open and Caroline Munro enter (wearing her Stevie Nicks shawl).  She stopped just inside the door for a few moments watching Don perform and then apparently must have recognized me on the other side of the room and threaded her way all the way through the audience and stood herself right next to me.  Now, in all seriousness, my face was probably the first one she recognized as someone she had had a pleasant, brief conversation with earlier that afternoon and I was the first non-whackjob she identified and that prompted her to stand next to me.  I of course watched her progress towards me out of the corner of my eye and, when she sidled up next to me with a pleasant "Hi!" and a smile, we both just stood there and watched the remainder of the show; only probably exchanging a couple more words and a "Good Night" after the show was over.  But still, I got to stand next to Caroline Munro for about a half hour laughing at some good comedy and dreaming I was her date.  Since that night, she never calls, she never writes. . . .
