WOMEN OF HORROR: ZITA JOHANN

ZITA JOHANN JOINS THE HALLOWEEN PANTHEON FOR ONE ROLE:  HELEN GROSVENOR IN "THE MUMMY" (1932).

Those eyes, those eyes!  Haunting.  Possessed of an era lost to time.  She was perfect in the role.  Interesting that Katharine Hepburn ALMOST got the role instead.  However, as much as I love Kate (and I place no other higher in my estimation), her Yankee no-nonsense attitude would've been totally wrong for the role.  Johann not only portrays the modern (1930s) woman with cosmopolitan panache but also evokes the ancient mists of memory as we glimpse the soul of the lost Princess Ankh-es-en-amon.
