This was the pilot episode co-written by George Romero himself and directed by Bob Balaban. Nothing could make better Halloweenie TV viewing than this episode. I'm sure we've all seen it. Barnard Hughes plays the miserly and decidedly nasty Gideon Hackels who has seemingly the whole town in debt to him. As a Halloween tradition, he invites all the children who have parents in debt to come and search Hackles' house for the I.O.U.'s; any child who finds them will have his parents' debts erased. Unfortunately for the children, Hackles rigs his house with countless scary contraptions which have scared away every single kid over the years. Of course, this year the Halloween spirits will have a little surprise prepared for Gideon Hackles!
No matter how many times I see this episode, it always captivates me.
